Our Families search and purchase a 40ft Cruise-A-Home. Both houseboats needed major repairs. This blog is the journey of the search, purchase, and repair to bring this beast back to usability along with the frustrations and disappointments that go with owning a boat or three.

Moving from House to HouseBoat

Two is Better than One, RIGHT? #2

Page #2

When we went to Friday Harbor, the mechanic who had been working on the Cruise-A-Home, named Sea Dancer, had had a family emergency and had to leave the island unexpectedly.  Prior to his departure, he had been working on the engines doing a tune up and carb adjustment.  Knowing he had to take care of family and the holidays were coming up, we allotted two weeks for the completion of the tune ups and delivery, plus I was due to have knee surgery the following Wednesday and I wouldn't be in any condition to assist with moving the boat or tying up.

That Wednesday I had my knee surgery and it went very smooth, but I was not at work and the emails I had been exchanging back and forth with the seller were from my work email.  I had told him I would not be at work, but he did not get that notification and was not communicating with us.  We had become very concerned that we had lost our deposit of $700 and the boat.  Since he had not received any return communication from us, he had thought we backed out and relisted the boat on Craigslist.  I was very upset.  We finally connected properly and got everything back on track and made arrangements to send him the remaining amount due

Meanwhile just before our Thanksgiving vacation our son got called by our friend with the Delta Clipper.  He was now ready to move off and our son, Jeremy could take possession of the Clipper the following Tuesday - December 1 - What Great NEWS!!!

Never mind that we had just bought another boat for him!

Unfortunately, we never cancelled the deal with our friend and since he knew his boat was sold, he had gone ahead and purchased another boat for him and his bride, it had just taken him a while to get moved off and everything taken care of.   He had already arranged for the slip the boat was in to be turned over to our son and our whole community was really excited that he was purchasing the Clipper, we felt kind of stuck. It also didn't help that our son still really wanted the Clipper and agreed to finalize the purchase before talking with us.

The Delta Clipper

So now we own two house boats!  But that is OK we will have one boat with good interior and one with good engines.  We decided we were going to make the Clipper the donate boat, since the Cruise-A-Home had new everything and running engines.
